FAQs

Q. Why should I book a professional Bridal Hair and Makeup Artist?

A. Getting ready for a special occasion should be fun and an event in itself. As a professional bridal hair and makeup artist I have been trained to the highest level from styling, makeup and customer service. I have every possible product in my hair and makeup kit, and I will always have the right shade of foundation. I custom blend for your specific skintone and can colour match even the fairest of the fair.

The difference with application of makeup by an experienced bridal makeup artist and a regular makeup artist/film artist is having a specific skill set, and experience in that particular field. A specialist bridal artist has years of experience under their belt, understands how different products sit and stay on the skin and photograph to a specific lighting set up/season. They have exceptional organisational skills, and stay calm throughout all the drama. They will listen to every word you say at your trial, and advise you on skincare, and what will or will not work for you.

I aim to make you look and feel amazing. It’s a really relaxing and fun experience having your hair and makeup done by a professional and probably the most important element, and one people forget about, is that you will look flawless in every photograph. Make up for photography is a completely different skill to regular day time or night out make up that you’d do yourself, and your artist understanding lighting and longevity is key. It requires using make up to sculpt the face and shape the features so you look a younger, fresher, more fabulous version of you. If you want that then book a professional bridal hair and makeup artist.

Q. I don’t usually wear makeup, will I look like me?

A. I meet all my brides prior to their big day to discuss their hair and makeup and what their preferred look is. I take everything into consideration when designing a look specifically for you. I consider your dress, your venue, your flowers and how you want to feel on your big day – whether it is glamorous, or a natural, fresher version of you. I spend a lot of time prepping the skin and getting it to look flawless. You’ll still be just like you – only better!

Q. Do I have to book you for both hair and makeup?

A. No. Although I am fully qualified in both hair and makeup, I fully understand you might have your usual hairstylist, or a friend who is a bridal makeup artist, so it is absolutely fine to book one service. I have a choice of packages to suit you and your budget. I have a great relationship with lots of hairdressers and makeup artists working in the wedding industry in Northern Ireland, so no matter how many people are involved we will always good craic on the day!

Q. How many people can you cater for in a bridal party?

A. I have a team of fabulous Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists who regularly work with me. Just let me know the number of people in your party when enquiring.

Q. How far do you travel?

A. I am available to travel throughout the UK, Northern Ireland, Ireland and Internationally if required.

Q. What do I need to take with me or do for the trial?

A. For the trial it’s always helpful to see an image of your wedding dress, swatches and colours for your bridesmaids and any jewellery and headpieces. I would always insist that the bride takes time to look through my photo gallery and check out things like Pinterest for ideas, so we can create the perfect look together. I always ask that you wash your hair the evening before and don’t straighten. If you can, use a small amount of volumising or texture spray before drying to create a ‘grip’. I also recommend you wear tan to your trial if you plan to have it applied for your wedding day. Even if it’s instant tan on the top area of your body. if you like tan on your face, I’d recommend you use a specially formulated Facial tanning spray or drops, mixed with your night cream.

Q. How do I prepare my skin and hair for the wedding?

A. Your preparation should begin at least one year prior to your wedding. I would advise you to visit a reputable skincare specialist to analyse and create a skincare plan just for you, and to address any concerns you may have. Please come to your makeup the trial with clean, makeup free skin if possible. If you thread/wax, please do so at least 4 days prior to your appointment as makeup will not adhere to freshly treated skin. If you plan to wear tan on the day, apply tan for the trial. Hair should be kept in good condition with regular cuts and layers if you want a soft, relaxed style. Please arrive with hair washed the day before and unstraightened, in order for me to work with the natural texture. Please note, do not use heated tools like ghds in you hair prior to your trial, as they make your hair static and slippery.

Q. What products do you use?

A. I am not tied to one particular brand, so everything I use has been tried and tested before it goes into my trusted makeup kit. I use a mix of luxury and mid range products such as Nars, Danessa Myricks, Charlotte Tilbury, Makeup Forever, Laura Mercier, Illamasqua, Kevyn Aucoin, Benefit, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Viseart, Iconic London, Sonia Roselli, Tarte, BPerfect, Madina Milano and Chanel, to name a few.

Q. Will my makeup stay all day/night?

A. One of the reasons makeup doesn’t last is that it isn’t the right match for your skin type, or your skin has not been looked after correctly in the run up to the event. Your skin may be dry and need a more hydrating treatment or combination and need a mattifying effect. I also take a lot of time prepping your skin and use professional tools to apply the products ensuring they stay put. Many clients have complimented me on how their make up has lasted, even the naughty clients who didn’t remove their makeup before bed told me that the makeup still looked good in the morning!

Q. Can I purchase any products to touch up during the day?

A. Yes, we can arrange the purchase of any products you liked from your trial, where possible for a small fee. Most people purchase a lippy or gloss to always be photo ready!
